As stated by the AfDB, the Project, the first wind project in Mozambique, involves design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 120 megawatt (MW) onshore wind farm, located approximately 50km west of Maputo in Mozambique. The Project will generate 331.6GWh of energy at P90 per year. Electricidade de Moçambique E.P. (EDM) will be the sole off-taker of electricity from the Project under a 25-year take or pay Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). As the first utility-scale wind power project in Mozambique, the Project will contribute towards the diversification and decarbonization of the energy mix in Mozambique and the region, as well as provide cheap power during the evening demand peak. The Financial Close (FC) is expected in December 2024.
As stated by the AfDB, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Central Eléctrica da Namaacha, S.A. is owned 70% by Globeleq Mozambique Renewable Holdings (Pty) Ltd. (Globeleq) and 30% by Source Energia (Source). The shareholding at financial close is expected to be 75% by Globeleq, 20% by Source and 5% by EDM.
