As stated by the AfDB, the goal of the project is to promote private sector participation in secondary wood processing for inclusive green growth, employment and economic diversification in the Republic of Liberia.
Secondary wood processing is identified by this project as good entry point for youth involvement because of the potentials for marketing and value chain development through the enhancement of the business and leadership skills of local furniture makers and carpenters. The project will help develop secondary processed wood products and will provide small equipment supports to user groups to successfully manage and market them. Given the current active level of youth participation in the rudimentary wood processing sector in Liberia, they will benefit greatly. The Project will address fragility and build resilience. The project comprises two main components namely:
(i) organization, support of local producers; and
(ii) project management, coordination and support.
The project will ensure the feasibility of using electric tools to replace some of the hand tools through additional training and material supports to beneficiaries. At least 30 women will be empowered through receiving six months intensive vocational training on carpentry and furniture making skills at one of the shared demonstration centres to be established by the project. Other beneficiaries of the project will include students receiving intensive trainings at the shared demonstration centres as well as other carpenters and furniture makers from other parts of Liberia.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF AfDB
The Independent Review Mechanism (IRM), which is administered by the Compliance Review and Mediation Unit (CRMU), is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an African Development Bank (AfDB)-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the IRM, it may assist you by either seeking to address your problems by facilitating a dispute resolution dialogue between you and those implementing the project and/or investigating whether the AfDB complied with its policies to prevent environmental and social harms. You can submit a complaint electronically by emailing crmuinfo@afdb.org, b.kargougou@afdb.org, b.fall@afdb.org, and/or s.toure@afdb.org.
