Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the investment project will develop four new extension corridors comprising 43.8 km route length to further encourage modal shifts to low carbon public transport. The proposed corridors are mainly the extension of the Phase I corridors connecting the new and growing urban agglomerations of Nagpur City, including the proposed special economic zones, thereby providing public transport connectivity to the new urban areas in the city. The combined 83.8 km metro rail network is expected to cater to daily passenger trips of 590,000 by 2031 and 730,000 by 2041.

Early Warning System Project Analysis
For a project with severe or irreversible impacts to local community and natural resources, the Early Warning System Team may conduct a thorough analysis regarding its potential impacts to human and environmental rights.

The project is expected to be category A per ADB's Safeguard Policy Statement (2009) on account of possible health and safety impacts. Mitigation measures for all environmental risks identified for the project will be addressed through design measures and inclusion of appropriate actions in the environmental management plan and the safety, health, and environment guidelines. Consultations will be done with key project stakeholders throughout the EIA preparation and continued during project implementation. A grievance redress mechanism will be implemented under the project to address complaints and grievances.
