Asia and the Pacific is the most disaster-prone region in the world. Over the past 50 years, natural hazards in Asia and the Pacific have affected 6.9 billion people and killed more than 2 million. In 2021 alone, floods and storms accounted for 80% of natural hazard events in Asia, directly affecting 48.3 million people, and causing total economic damages of US$ 35.6 billion According to the 2020 Asian Development Water Outlook, 22 out of 49 countries in the region are facing water security which represents 2 billion people, or 50% of the region's population.
According to the Bank’s website, the TA will target the following DMCs including Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Tajikistan based on their national water security rating as assessed by the ADWO 2020, which assessed the majority of the target countries as water insecure.
The TA cluster subproject financing amount is $2,000,000, which will be financed on a grant basis by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), and administered by ADB.
The government will provide counterpart support in the form of counterpart staff and access to data and information needed to undertake TA activities.
