Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the proposed NSRUDP will increase access, quality, and safety of urban services for about 2,180 households in Nauru.

The project will:

(i)improve resilience of the water supply across Nauru by building a reticulated water supply network connecting about 60% of the population (1,215 households in high density urban areas) and strengthening the quality, safety, and reliability of the non-reticulated water supply system for the low-density areas for the remaining 40% of the population;

(ii)build a water transfer system from existing desalination plants to the new reticulation network ;

(iii)develop an assessment, improvement, and maintenance scheme for private household rainwater storage systems throughout Nauru to promote resilience through water source diversification, and prepare a periodic maintenance plan for future;

(iv)build a new septage treatment plant with possible biosolids reuse;

(v)develop an on-site sanitation system assessment and maintenance scheme for on-site sanitation systems throughout Nauru and prepare a periodic maintenance plan for future;

(vi)decommission the existing national sanitation facility; and

(vii)build a composting and solid waste recycling center to promote resources recovery to support a more circular economy.

Outputs will include: (i) climate resilient, safe, sustainable, and efficient water supply system developed; (ii) climate resilient, safe, sustainable, and efficient septage treatment plant, collection, and transport system developed; (iii) composting and waste recycling systems for circular economy developed; (iv) enabling environment, institutional capacity, resilience, and financial sustainability of utilities strengthened to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.

Contact Information
This section aims to support the local communities and local CSO to get to know which stakeholders are involved in a project with their roles and responsibilities. If available, there may be a complaint office for the respective bank which operates independently to receive and determine violations in policy and practice. Independent Accountability Mechanisms receive and respond to complaints. Most Independent Accountability Mechanisms offer two functions for addressing complaints: dispute resolution and compliance review.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF ADB

The Accountability Mechanism is an independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who believe they are likely to be, or have been, adversely affected by an Asian Development Bank-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the Accountability Mechanism, they may investigate to assess whether the Asian Development Bank is following its own policies and procedures for preventing harm to people or the environment. You can learn more about the Accountability Mechanism and how to file a complaint at: http://www.adb.org/site/accountability-mechanism/main.
