Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

As stated by the ADB, Activity 4, through the engagement of project management consultants and a design firm, will support the preparation of the detailed engineering design (DED) of the project facilities, procurement documents, and due diligence documents of the ensuing Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor Regional Improvement of Border Services Project (ABEC RIBS). This will enhance project readiness and improve the executing agency's capacity to implement the ensuing project.

The ensuing ABEC RIBS Project will be implemented under the framework of the ABEC development program. The ABEC development program, established in 2014, seeks to connect people, businesses, and ideas to shorten the economic distance between the two cities of Almaty and Bishkek. This means reducing travel time; creating one competitive market for health, education, and tourism services; and aggregating agricultural produce in wholesale markets. The program helped define the scope of the ABEC RIBS project, supported the preparation of the preliminary facility design and cost estimates, and supported the project on procurement and engineering solutions. Under the ABEC development program, financial investments in improving infrastructure and technologies will be paired with improving BCP governance and operational procedures on the Kyrgyz and Kazakh sides of the border. The facility designs and procedures are expected to be environmentally friendly, contributing to reduced air, water, and soil pollution, and carbon dioxide emissions at the border crossing areas.
