Project Description

According to the Bank's website, this project provides financing to support renewable energy development in Mongolia. Outputs include:

  1. Connecting the western and Altai Uliastai grid systems to the national grid systems, to strengthen energy transmission.
  2. Piloting pumped storage hydropower generation schemes, including Kherlen-Choir (50MW). 
  3. Piloting geothermal heat and power generation schemes, including in the Khangai mountain area.
  4. Deploying advanced heating technologies to reduce the use of coal.

This project has been categorized as B for the Environment and Involuntary Resettlement, and C for Indigenous Peoples.
