Project Description

According to the Bank's website, this is a regional knowledge and support technical assistance project that aims to support an increase in regional power trade among Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The subprojects included in this project are:

  • Modernizing the coordinating dispatch center (CDC) Energiya, which coordinates power flow between the national electricity grids of the Central Asian Power System (CAPS), to enhance its technical capacity;
  • Identifying the technical obstacles to power trade for CAPS, and proposing and coordinating solutions to overcome them for each country; and
  • Supporting the expansion of CAPS membership and seeking new markets.
