Project Description

According to ADB, the project is fully aligned with the strategy, articulated in ADB's country partnership strategy (CPS) for Nepal, 20202024, to focus on energy sector reform and financial sustainability. The project directly addresses three key Operational Priorities of ADB's Strategy 2030 (i) tackling climate change, building climate and disaster resilience, and enhancing environmental sustainability through increasing use of clean energy in Nepal and neighboring countries and contributing to climate and disaster resilience and enhancement of environmental sustainability; (ii) Strengthening governance and institutional capacity through promoting a step-change in institutional capacity and governance at NEA; and (iii) Fostering regional cooperation and integration through regional energy trade and connectivity with India and Bangladesh. The project will also address the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): zero poverty (SDG 1); affordable and clean energy (SDG 7); and climate action (SDG 13).
