The proposed $500 million sector loan aims to help improve access to electricity services in Eastern Indonesia (Kalimantan, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, Papua, and Sulawesi) by supporting a cluster of new small- to mid-sized power stations fueled by natural gas which is a clean burning fuel that has lower power generation costs and less local pollutants and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to diesel-fired units. The project also plans to include pilot-scale gas and solar hybrid units that can help enhance the borrower''s operational know-how and position them well for future scale up of renewable energy use.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF ADB
The Accountability Mechanism is an independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who believe they are likely to be, or have been, adversely affected by an Asian Development Bank-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the Accountability Mechanism, they may investigate to assess whether the Asian Development Bank is following its own policies and procedures for preventing harm to people or the environment. You can learn more about the Accountability Mechanism and how to file a complaint at: http://www.adb.org/site/accountability-mechanism/main
