According to the Bank’s website, the initiative aims to strengthen the African startup ecosystem by providing access to fundraising data and training that help startups navigate investor networks and develop effective fundraising strategies. It also contributes to ecosystem-wide transparency through support for a recognized platform that promotes openness and thought leadership in African VC markets.
Support of this project ensures equitable access to strategic data for founders. This project is strategically aligned with the European Commission TA Facility and the community engagement pillar in particular, which explicitly highlights support for VC data initiatives as an activity that strengthens ecosystems and contributes to thought leadership. VC data initiatives sit at the very heart of venture ecosystems: without reliable funding data, the ecosystem becomes a "blind box," making it impossible to track growth, identify gaps, and build confidence among investors, policymakers, and founders.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF FMO
Communities who believe they will be negatively affected by a project funded by the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) may be able to file a complaint with the Independent Complaints Mechanism, which is the joint independent accountability mechanism of the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) and the German Investment Corporation (KfW). A complaint can be filed in writing, by email, post, or online. The complaint can be filed in English or any other language of the complainant. The Independent Complaints Mechanism is comprised of a three-member Independent Expert Panel and it can provide either problem-solving, compliance review or both, in either order. Additional information about this accountability mechanism, including a guide and template for filing a complaint, can be found at: https://www.fmo.nl/independent-complaints-mechanism
