Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

As stated on the project disclosure page, the International Finance Corporation entered into a collaboration agreement with Central Puerto S.A. on December 5, 2024, to advance feasibility studies for the first power transmission line to supply renewable energy to mining companies in northwestern Argentina. These studies will assess the technical, economic and environmental viability of the project, which aims to interconnect mining projects in the Argentine Puna region to the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI), guaranteeing a reliable supply of renewable energy through private-private agreements. The Central Puerto initiative contemplates the construction of a high voltage line (HVL) of approximately 150 kilometers originating at the Puna Transformer Station (ET) and foresees a potential capacity of up to 400 MW, offering competitive energy supply mainly from renewable sources.

Early Warning System Project Analysis
For a project with severe or irreversible impacts to local community and natural resources, the Early Warning System Team may conduct a thorough analysis regarding its potential impacts to human and environmental rights.

As reported on the project disclosure page, IFC is continuing to engage with Central Puerto to evaluate the feasibility of a proposed 150 km transmission line in Argentina’s Puna region. As this is an upstream engagement, the specific scope of IFC’s environmental and social support has not yet been defined and will be determined as project development progresses and additional information becomes available.
