According to the bank disclosure statement, the proposed project will enhance the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources' (MENR) readiness to design and implement a national landfill remediation program prioritized under the forthcoming NWMPC. This will be achieved through development of: A geospatial landfill inventory and classification system, enabling MENR to map, assess, and monitor landfill sites nationwide using risk-based criteria. A risk-based investment prioritization tool, integrating environmental, social, and climate risk indicators to support transparent and cost-effective investment decision-making. Techno-economic pre-feasibility studies for representative landfill sites, identifying viable methane management and remediation solutions tailored to local conditions Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for landfill closure, post-closure monitoring, and methane management, aligned with international best practices and national standards. Capacity building for MENR and local authorities, including training, stakeholder engagement, and institutional strengthening to support long-term implementation. Disseminating knowledge across the region to support scale-up that will be enabled through a partnership with Global Methane Hub.
