According to the Bank’s website, this TA focuses on carbon emission reduction pathways in the municipal wastewater treatment sector. Key activities will include (i) reviewing technology options; (ii) developing technology guidelines, and national standards and/or a national standardization guiding technical documents; and (iii) formulating sector policy recommendations to mainstream and scale up carbon emission reductions at municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The TA will support the People's Republic of China's (PRC) "dual carbon" objectives of carbon peaking before 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. Furthermore, the TA will set a global benchmark and advance sustainable practices in low-carbon wastewater treatment for replication.

The TA financing amount is $252,500, which will be financed on a grant basis by ADB’s Technical Assistance Special Fund (TASF-other sources). The government will provide counterpart support in the form of counterpart staff, access to existing reports and data, secretarial assistance, and other in-kind contributions.
