According to the Bank’s website, the project will improve access to safe water and sanitation services across 426 km2 of Chennai while strengthening the institutional capacity of CMWSSB to manage O&M.; It will expand and modernize infrastructure, including a citywide ring main and new pumping stations to improve water pressure and reliability. By combining the ring main with expanded last-mile connections, the project will directly reach households and communities, delivering visible improvements in daily life and significantly raising the standard of living across the city. The project will expand and modernize Chennais sewerage network, upgrade pumping stations, and rehabilitate treatment facility to improve collection efficiency. Pollution from untreated wastewater will be reduced through nature-based solutions while digital tools will enhance monitoring, service delivery and customer engagement. In addition, the project will enhance CMWSSBs performance through staff training, a performance-based O&M; contract, and the use of digital platforms for customer engagement and grievance redress ensuring more responsive and accountable service delivery. Selected training programs will invite participation from other utilities in the region to promote peer-to-peer learning and regional capacity building.
