According to the Bank’s website, the proposed technical assistance (TA) will support the implementation of the project component of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Integrated Trade Facilitation Project (the project) and the preparation of the next SASEC Integrated Trade Facilitation Project (Phase 2 project) in Bangladesh. Both projects aim to modernize key land and seaports by improving hard infrastructure and enhancing operational efficiency. These will also support customs modernization initiatives, including digitalization and the streamlining of border clearance procedures, to facilitate faster and more cost-effective trade and transit operations. The TA will finance activities such as feasibility studies, assessments of relevant hard and soft infrastructure, capacity building of government agencies, the development of knowledge products, and project implementation support. These interventions will contribute to enhanced trade competitiveness and regional connectivity under the subregional cooperation framework.

The TA financing amount is $2,000,000, which will be financed on a grant basis by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR) and administered by ADB.
The government will provide counterpart support in the form of assigning counterpart staff, office and housing accommodation, office supplies, secretarial assistance, domestic transportation, and other in-kind contributions.
