According to the bank's website, "the proposed TA aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation and promote sustainable development of Hengshui Lake (HSL). Designated as the Hengshui Lake National Nature Reserve (HSLNR), the site is located in the center of the North China Plain, approximately 280 kilometers south of Beijing. The TA will adopt an integrated ecosystem approach to enhance the HSL management and support the long-term ecological and socio-economic sustainability of the lake basin. Key activities will include: (i) promoting integrated ecosystem management practices to align with the criteria for designation as a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site);1 (ii) valuing the lake's natural capital to explore mechanisms for realizing the benefits of ecological products; (iii) empowering local communities through a comprehensive package of capacity building, ecotourism development, and promotion of sustainable and nature-based livelihoods; and (iv) strengthening the institutional capacity and knowledge management systems of HSLNR".
