Project Description

As stated by the ADB, the technical assistance (TA) will support the preparation of the ensuing project; provide training in the project's executing and implementing agencies, as well as other stakeholders, and improve project readiness. The Coal to Solar Transition in Ger Districts of Ulaanbaatar City project aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Ger districts by improving both indoor and outdoor air quality. The project will demonstrate the 'Coal to Solar model in ger districts through the replacement of coal fired stoves with distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for cooking, heating, and electricity, house-insulation, and locally battery assembly facility. An innovative financing scheme through carbon market participation will be explored. The project is planned to be implemented in three subdistricts covering 400 families among which women-headed and vulnerable families are included. A roadmap will also be developed to design the roll out plan of the proposed Coal to Solar model to the entire ger areas.
