Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the proposed project will refinance Phase 1 of the Antalya Airport's expansion, increasing the overall capacity to 65 million passengers. This includes upgrades to passenger and cargo terminals, new apron areas, parking facilities, and supporting infrastructure.

In 2021, Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide and TAV Havalimanlari Holding A.S. Joint Venture (“the Sponsors”) were awarded a 25-year concession to operate Antalya Airport (AYT), Türkiye, by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority. The concession required construction works to expand the capacity of AYT prior to commencement of operations in 2025. Phase 1 of capital expenditure works to expand the airport’s capacity and infrastructure have been ongoing since 2022. Subsequent phases will involve the relocation of the air traffic control tower and construction of a new terminal building.

The Project site spans a large area within and adjacent to the existing airport footprint, with topography that is generally flat and suitable for construction. Upgrades to utilities such as water supply, wastewater treatment, and electricity distribution were required, as well as the development of temporary construction compounds and worker accommodation zones.
