As stated by the ADB, the proposed Uzbekistan Power Transmission Grid Enhancement Project (Phase 2) is required to facilitate the supply of electricity generated by existing, under construction, and planned renewable power plants (solar and wind) to the load centers Fergana valley and Tashkent Region.
The Joint-Stock Company National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (JSC NEGU) requested the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to finance the construction of three high-voltage transmission lines and the expansion of the substations to be connected by the transmission lines. ADB has agreed to support JSC NEGU for the preparation of the feasibility study which will determine the technical and economic feasibility of the construction of the high voltage power transmission lines.
The ADB categorized the project environmental and social risks as follows:
Environment - B;
Involuntary Resettlement - B;
Indigenous Peoples - C.
As stated by DevEx, the joint-stock company «National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan» was established in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 27, 2019 No. PP-4249 «On the Strategy for the Further Development and Reformation of the Electric Power Industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan». «National Power Grid of Uzbekistan» JSC is part of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
