As stated by the ADB, the transaction technical assistance (TA) complements the senior secured debt financing in the form of nonconvertible debentures of up to 1,713 million from the ordinary capital resources of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to ReNew Power Synergy Private Limited (ReNew Synergy) for the ReNew Carbon Credits Financing Project in India. The debt financing will be used to establish carbon sequestration and mitigation projects utilizing agroforestry, biochar, and improved cookstoves (ICS). The agroforestry project would include planting 22.5 million saplings for afforestation to sequester carbon in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha and Maharashtra.
The TA will build the capacity of 1,000 smallholder farmers in Odisha, India, with at least 500 being women, in climate-resilient agroforestry systems, financial literacy, sustainable food security, and gender equality. It will also pilot a climate change derisking agricultural finance solution with at least one farmer producer organization (FPO). Climate-resilient agroforestry will reduce the vulnerability of farmers to climate change by focusing on (i) farm diversification to improve food security; (ii) climate- and crop-specific soil and nutrient management; (iii) improved water access and irrigation; and (iv) family-based farm decision-making and financial management. The TA trainings will align with the objectives of the governments of India and Odisha state to pursue Bhartiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhti, a form of natural farming that prioritizes traditional indigenous practices and the use of natural inputs. Training sessions will be available to all agroforestry farmers in communities where ReNew Synergy is implementing its projects, not just those working with ReNew Synergy. The TA promote gender equality by increasing women’s economic participation in agriculture, enhancing their influence on farm-level decision-making, and boosting their financial and technical capabilities. Further, the TA training materials will be shared with government agencies in India.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF ADB
The Accountability Mechanism is an independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who believe they are likely to be, or have been, adversely affected by an Asian Development Bank-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the Accountability Mechanism, they may investigate to assess whether the Asian Development Bank is following its own policies and procedures for preventing harm to people or the environment. You can learn more about the Accountability Mechanism and how to file a complaint at: http://www.adb.org/site/accountability-mechanism/main.
