According to bank provided information, the investment involves the provision of a senior unsecured loan of up to USD 30 million to the National Bank of Kuwait S.A.E (NBKE) under the Financial Intermediaries Framework ("FIF"), to be on lent to eligible micro small and medium enterprises ("MSMEs"). The term of the loan is 4 years with 1 year grace period.
The EBRD loan will support NBKE's lending activities and expand access to finance for the underserved MSME segment.

The National Bank of Kuwait S.A.E is a full-service commercial bank in Egypt with a consolidated asset base of EUR 3.5 billion as at H1 2025. NBKE is the 12th largest bank by asset size and the 8th largest private bank in Egypt. The Bank is a subsidiary of National Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait's largest bank with over 30% in market share, which owns 99% of the shares.

The Project Complaint Mechanism (PCM) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the PCM, it may assess compliance with EBRD's own policies and procedures to prevent harm to the environment or communities or it may assist you in resolving the problem that led to the complaint through a dialogue with those implementing the project. Additionally, the PCM has the authority to recommend a project be suspended in the event that harm is imminent.
