Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

As stated by the ADB, all-season irrigation water and inputs will directly benefit farmer yields and potentially create job opportunities for agricultural laborers and others in the supply chain. Farmers-managed irrigation systems (FMIS) will be implemented in 35 districts of Province-1, Madhesh and Bagmati Provinces; 13 lift irrigation systems will be implemented in two districts of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces; and Rehabilitation of Rajapur Irrigation scheme will be undertaken in one district of Lumbini Province. The project will benefit approximately 0.28 million population and
provide improved irrigation facilities for 31,900ha (Rajapur: 14,500ha; FMIS: 16,000ha; and lift irrigation: 1,400ha). The potential beneficiaries are the poor-small and marginal farmers and agricultural employees, including but not limited to, women and socially excluded groups (indigenous peoples and marginalized social castes residing in the project area).

The project is closely aligned with (i) ADB's Strategy 2030's operational priorities on gender equality, environment, climate resilience and disaster risk management, rural development and food security, and institutional strengthening; (ii) Sustainable Development Goals on economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection; and (iii) ADB's Water Sector Directional Guide that aims for poverty reduction, gender equality, climate resilience, food security, and capacity building. The project also aims to: (i) empower women farmers, (ii) ensure water security and build climate resilience, and (iii) increase food security and reduce rural poverty.

Early Warning System Project Analysis
