As stated by the EBRD, the project consists of a senior secured loan of up to RON 347,771,000 (equivalent to EUR 68.6 million) to NewCold Romania SRL, a limited liability company incorporated in Romania, including i) committed tranche RON 182,771,000 and ii) uncommitted tranche RON 165,000,000, to support the development of a large-scale, automated cold storage facilities with capacity for 75,400 pallets in Bucharest, and a planned future expansion. It will be the first fully automated cold storage facility operated by a third-party logistics provider in Romania. The Project has been approved under the EBRD InvestEU Framework for Sustainable Transition.
The facility is expected to strengthen Romania's food supply chain by improving storage efficiency, reducing food waste, and supporting the digitalisation of logistics infrastructure. Local suppliers will benefit from higher operational standards, including advanced traceability and performance monitoring systems.
As stated by the EBRD, NewCold Romania SRL is a subsidiary of NewCold Cooperatief U.A., a Netherlands-based developer and operator of automated cold storage warehouses. NewCold operates 26 facilities worldwide and is backed by institutional investors managed by Westport Capital Partners LLC.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF EBRD
The Project Complaint Mechanism (PCM) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the PCM, it may assess compliance with EBRD's own policies and procedures to prevent harm to the environment or communities or it may assist you in resolving the problem that led to the complaint through a dialogue with those implementing the project. Additionally, the PCM has the authority to recommend a project be suspended in the event that harm is imminent.
