With the aim of gender mainstreaming in Pakistan's energy sector, this subproject seeks to " enhance women's participation in the energy sector as employees, services providers, consumers, and entrepreneurs". This will be done through the following interventions: (i) conduct of a gender diagnostic of the energy sector while establishing a baseline on women's participation in the energy sector value chain; (ii) formulation of a national gender mainstreaming policy for the energy sector; (iii) demonstration a replicable model of technical training for women on solar technology; and (iv) design and implementation of gender and leadership training for women and men personnel of selected energy sector organizations."
This subproject will be supporting the preparation and implementation of the 'Energy Sector Reforms and Financial Sustainability Program, Subprogram 2'.
According to the bank document, the national gender mainstreaming policy developed via this subproject will strengthen gender inclusion in the energy sector. The emphasis of the policy will be on the following: (i) increasing women's participation as technical and skilled employees in the energy sector value chain; (ii) improving women's access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions; and (iii) strengthening institutional capacities of actors in the energy sector to mainstream gender in policies, procedures, operations, and services.
