Project Description

According to the Bank’s website, the TA will provide knowledge support for India to strengthen the country's disaster risk financing system by promoting insurance solutions. The TA will (i) assess the enabling environment of two selected states for insurance solutions, including gaps in existing policies and conditions, and provide recommendations to the state governments; (ii) design pilot insurance products at a district level in the selected states, and support the roll-out of innovative insurance products; and (iii) develop proposals for a national-level disaster risk insurance pool and/or reinsurance arrangements.

The TA financing amount is $1.5 million, which will be financed on a grant basis by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR). The government will provide counterpart support in the form of counterpart staff, office and housing accommodation, office supplies, secretarial assistance, and other in-kind contributions.
