According to the IFC, the proposed investment consists of a 10-year corporate loan of up to €1,200 million to Enel Finance International (the “Borrower”), a wholly owned financing vehicle of Enel S.p.A. (the “Sponsor”). The investment will finance the procurement of green electrical equipment, works and services intended to improve grid resilience and quality of service in selected electricity distribution, digitalization, and energy efficiency operations of Enel in Latin America (“Green Value Chains”, or the “Project”).
According to the IFC, Enel S.p.A. (“Enel”) is a global power utility headquartered in Italy, operating across generation (86 GW of installed capacity), distribution (69 million end-users), and retail supply of electricity and gas in 41 countries across Europe, Latin America and North America. The company is publicly listed on the Euronext Milan market. Enel Finance International (“EFI”) is Enel‘s principal external funding vehicle, raising debt in the international capital markets through bond issuances and bank loans.
