According to the Bank’s website, the proposed investment is an equity investment of up to US$6m, in Ventures Platform Pan-African Fund II (“Fund II” or “VP II”), a Venture Capital (“VC”) fund focusing on Seed stage technology-enabled companies in Africa. The Fund will be domiciled in Guernsey and managed by Ventures Platform GP (“VP”). VP is headquartered in Nigeria. Fund 2 will be deployed across Africa with a focus on Nigeria.
The project consists of early-stage investments, primarily in Nigeria, in Fintech, Life Sciences, Edtech, Digital Infrastructure, Enterprise SaaS and Agritech, which are expected to have potential limited adverse environmental and/or social risks or impacts that are few in number, generally site specific, largely reversible, and can be readily addressed through mitigation measures. Therefore, the proposed project has been classified as a Category FI-2 project according to IFC Sustainability Policy.
FC is proposing up to US$6M equity investment VP Fund II, not to exceed 20% of total commitments.
