Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the proposed project entails an IFC equity investment of up to US$150 million in a separately managed account (the “Fund”) targeting special situations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam (the “Target Markets”). The advisor of the Fund is Ares Management Asia (Cayman) Limited.

Early Warning System Project Analysis
For a project with severe or irreversible impacts to local community and natural resources, the Early Warning System Team may conduct a thorough analysis regarding its potential impacts to human and environmental rights.

The Fund will invest in credit and or credit related assets and other opportunistic investments in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Typical investments include privately negotiated investments in debt securities, loans or other credit-related assets or pools of such securities, loans or assets. In addition, investments may include mezzanine and convertible/ equity linked products or other assets afflicted by market dislocation on an opportunistic basis consistent with the Fund’s overall investment objective. Due to the nature of distressed and special situations sector, some investments may also present limited access and leverage to the fund manager to assess and mitigate the E&S risks and hence residual risks will remain. Overall, the E&S risk of the proposed investment is medium-high, and the project is categorized as FI-1 according to IFC's Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability.
