As stated by the IFC, the proposed investment is an up to EUR25m A-Loan to Groupe EDK SA, the holding company of the EDK Group, a Senegalese retail group, to (i) support the expansion of its grocery retail business, Low Price, with majority of stores expected to be located outside of the Dakar region in less served areas with lower income groups (EUR 15m in local currency (XOF) equivalent with IDA PSW support), and (ii) refinance part of its existing debt to reduce the number of lenders and improve the capital structure (EUR 10m in EUR without IDA PSW support).
As stated by the IFC, Groupe EDK SA, the holding company of the Group is fully owned by M. Demba Ka. Low Price, the Group grocery retail business is fully owned by Groupe EDK SA.
As stated on the company's website, the EDK Group is a Senegalese company founded 12 years ago by Mr. Demba Ka.
Since its inception, the group has experienced remarkable growth and has established itself as a major player in the Senegalese economy. EDK Group has successfully entered various key sectors and positioned itself as a reference in each of them.
