According to the bank disclosure statement, the proposed GMS Economic Corridor Transport System Improvement Project aims to upgrade priority sections of NR6 and improving border clearance infrastructure and processes at the selected BCPs. By enhancing road quality, safety, and climate resilience, and by facilitating more efficient and predictable cross-border movement of goods and people, the project will unlock the economic potential of the corridor while generating direct social and economic benefits for local communities.
The project's objectives are to: (i) improve connectivity and accessibility for communities in Houaphanh province to basic services, markets, and economic opportunities; (ii) strengthen cross-border trade and regional integration between Lao PDR and Viet Nam, thereby supporting private sector development and regional value chain participation; and (iii) prepare for the improvement of priority roads and selected BCPs along the GMS economic corridors.
