As stated by the DFC, Project Development ("PD") funding in the amount of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand U.S. Dollars ($150,000) will be provided as a reimbursable grant from DFC to RoPower Nuclear S.A. to prepare for DFC's potential equity investment in a RoPower Project.
The Project will consist of RoPower developing, building, and owning and operating the Doicesti small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear energy project in Romania, consisting of six NuScale Power Modules, each with an individual capacity of 77 megawatts (MW), and a combined capacity of 462 MW. The Project will potentially be a first of a kind once it reaches commercialization, providing dispatchable nuclear energy to the electric power grid.
The PD work will take place over approximately three months and will include completion of a detailed commercial feasibility study for the Project. The Study will include a detailed analysis of (i) the business model for the Project, and (ii) the market for electricity that would be supplied by the Project within Romania and, potentially, the region. The Study will also analyze and provide commentary on the reasonableness of the underlying assumptions driving the business results, and the viability of, and risk factors inherent in, the business plan.
As stated on the company's website, RoPower Nuclear S.A. is a project company established by Nuclearelectrica and Nova Power & Gas for the development of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Romania. The Project SMR Doicesti employs the first small modular reactor (SMR) technology that received approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This advanced technology was developed by the American company NuScale Power, a pioneer in next-generation nuclear energy solutions.
