As stated by the DFC, this technical assistance activity will provide funding to support Carbon Ventures Africa (CVA) in preparing the Grand Katanga Reforestation Project for a financial raise. This requires, and this Grant Funding will support, completing Project design; obtaining a validated Verra (a leading carbon registry) project design document (PDD) which will detail the project including its size, location, crediting period, credit ownership, baseline, and additionality; finalizing contracts with Local Community Forest Concessions (CFCLs); and building community capacity through consultation with local residents and leaders.
As stated on the client company's website, Carbon Ventures Africa is a business that restores native forests on deforested and degraded land in Africa, in cooperation with local communities, NGOs, technical specialists and international partners. The company was started in 2022 by the founders of Power Ventures Africa, and plans to plant more than 10 million trees over the next 5 years, removing more than 5 million tonnes of CO2e by 2050.
