According to bank provided information, the Project is the early works for the development of the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project (“AAWDCP”), a desalination plant and conveyance system in Jordan, on a build, operate, and transfer basis. The early works will primarily include field surveys, design development, and early mobilization activities.
Jordan faces a severe and growing water crisis driven by declining rainfall, overexploited aquifers, aging infrastructure, and rapid population growth due to refugee inflows. In response to these challenges, the Project and the subsequent AAWDCP construction and operations phase will help close Jordan’s projected 2040 water deficit by 75%, while reducing reliance on overstressed resources and supporting job creation and regional stability.
