As stated by the EBRD, the Project aims to strengthen the sustainability and competitiveness of the walnut value chain in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on both wild-harvested, and commercial production. The core goal is to operationalise the newly registered "Arstanbap" Geographical Indication (GI) for wild walnuts by strengthening the legal and institutional framework, developing credible certification and traceability systems, and building the capacity of the GI Association in marketing, internal control, and service delivery. Alongside this, the Project seeks to improve food safety, quality assurance, and traceability for all walnut products, aligning them with international standards. Further, the TC aims to support best practices sector-wide and raise the international profile of Kyrgyz walnuts, improving their market positioning and making the sector more attractive for future investment and export growth.
The Project will support:
I. Strengthening the legal and institutional framework for Geographical Indications (GIs).
II. Upgrading the walnut value chain to support investment readiness and long-term viability.
Information on the investment amount was not provided at the time of disclosure.
