The Smart Hospital (the "Project") is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) aimed at modernizing and providing operation and maintenance services for the Souza Aguiar Hospital Complex, Rio de Janeiro's largest emergency healthcare facility.
Currently, the Project serves the Brazilian public health system. It includes 551 beds, surgery rooms, an intensive care unit, medical offices, an emergency department, and a wide range of laboratory and imaging tests. The Project's CAPEX involves a complete modernization of the existing complex buildings, the acquisition of new equipment, and the construction of a new parking facility.
IDB Invest is expected to finance up to 33% of the Smart Hospital CAPEX through a loan of up to BRL 161,000,000, with a term of up to 20 years and a grace period of up to 3.5 years. Given the novelty of this hospital PPP structure, IDB Invest's participation is crucial to (i) closing the financing gap and (ii) potentially providing reassurance to other financiers.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF IDB / IDB INVEST
The Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) or Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest)-funded project. If you submit a complaint to MICI, they may assist you in addressing the problems you raised through a dispute-resolution process with those implementing the project and/or through an investigation to assess whether the IDB or IDB Invest is following its own policies for preventing or mitigating harm to people or the environment. You can submit a complaint by sending an email to MICI@iadb.org. You can learn more about the MICI and how to file a complaint at http://www.iadb.org/en/mici/mici,1752.html (in English) or http://www.iadb.org/es/mici/mici,1752.html (Spanish).
